By using the Services, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
Purpose of the Application
Voted by the People is a canvassing and field-management application designed for authorized political campaigns, candidates, committees, nonprofit organizations, community organizations, advocacy groups, and their approved staff members, canvassers, volunteers, and administrators.
The application may be used to:
- Assign canvassing territories and walking lists
- Display addresses and locations associated with assigned households
- Provide maps and navigation assistance
- Record whether an assigned address was visited
- Record canvassing results and voter responses
- Administer surveys or questionnaires
- Track canvassing progress
- Communicate with team members and administrators
- Produce campaign and field-activity reports
The application is not intended for personal or household surveillance.
Information We Collect
The information collected depends on the user's role, organization, device permissions, and use of the Services.
A. Account and Profile Information
We may collect:
- First and last name
- Email address
- Telephone number
- Username
- Password or authentication information
- Organization, campaign, or committee affiliation
- User role, such as administrator, team leader, paid canvasser, or volunteer
- Profile photograph, when voluntarily uploaded
- Training completion or onboarding information
B. Device and Technical Information
We may automatically collect:

- Operating system and app version
- Device identifiers
- Internet Protocol address
- Login dates and times
- Crash reports
- Diagnostic information

This information is used to maintain app functionality, prevent unauthorized access, investigate errors, and improve performance.
C. Location Information
With the user's permission, the application may collect precise or approximate device location.
Location information may be used to:
- Display the canvasser's position on a map
- Guide the canvasser to assigned addresses
- Verify that field activity occurred within an assigned area
- Record the starting and stopping points of a canvassing session
- Calculate canvassing progress and territory coverage
- Protect canvassers and improve field coordination

The application should collect location only when necessary for its disclosed field-canvassing functions.
When location is collected while the application is not actively visible on the screen, the app may be considered to be collecting background location. Background location requires additional justification, disclosure, consent, and Google Play review. Google advises developers to use the minimum level of location access necessary for the app's primary function.
Users may disable location permission through their device settings. Certain mapping, territory-verification, safety, or activity-tracking features may not function without location access.
D. Canvassing Activity
We may collect information entered or generated during a canvassing session, including:
- Assigned canvassing area
- Addresses assigned to the user
- Date and time of a visit
- Whether a door was knocked
- Whether a person answered
- Contact outcome or disposition
- Survey responses
- Notes entered by the canvasser
- Follow-up requests
- Issues identified by residents
- Support or opposition indicators
- Literature delivery status
- Language preference
- Request for campaign contact
- Session start and end times
- Number of completed and pending addresses
Users should not enter unnecessary sensitive personal information into free-text notes.
E. Voter and Household Information
Authorized organizations may provide voter or household information for use within the Services. Depending on the organization and applicable law, this information may include:
- Name
- Mailing or residential address
- City, state, and ZIP code
- Voter registration status
- Political party registration, where legally available
- Precinct or district
- Public voting-history indicators
- Telephone number
- Email address
- Demographic information contained in legally obtained voter records
- Campaign contact history
- Survey or canvassing history
This information may come from government voter-registration records, publicly available information, authorized data providers, campaigns, committees, or information voluntarily provided by individuals.
The application does not represent that every person displayed in the application is a registered user of the application.
F. Communications
When users contact us or communicate through the Services, we may collect:

- In-app chat communications

- Information provided during customer-support interactions
G. Photographs, Camera, and Media
When enabled and permitted by the user, the application may access the device camera or photo library for functions such as:

The application will not access photographs or media without permission.

A. With the Organization That Authorized the User
A user's account information, location-based activity, assignments, canvassing results, survey responses, notes, and performance information may be visible to authorized administrators, campaign managers, team leaders, or other approved representatives of the organization using the Services.
B. With Service Providers
We may provide information to vendors that perform services on our behalf, including:
- Cloud hosting
- Data storage
- Mapping and navigation
- Authentication
- Application analytics
- Error monitoring
- Email and text-message delivery
- Customer support
- Cybersecurity

These providers may process information only as needed to perform contracted services and subject to applicable agreements.
C. For Legal and Safety Reasons

We do not sell app users' precise location information.
We do not sell app-user account credentials.
Certain voter or campaign-related data may be licensed or provided to authorized campaigns or organizations as part of contracted services. Such activity will be described in the applicable agreement and performed in accordance with applicable law.
Location Permission and In-App Disclosure
Before requesting location permission, the application will display a clear explanation describing:
- The type of location information collected
- Why it is needed
- Whether it is collected while the app is in use or in the background
- How it is used
- Whether it is shared with authorized campaign administrators or service providers
Google requires prominent disclosure to appear within the app during normal use, before collection or permission access when users would not reasonably expect the collection. The disclosure cannot appear only in a privacy policy, website, settings page, app listing, or general Terms of Service.
Data Retention
We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary to:
- Provide the Services
- Fulfill the organization's campaign or project requirements
- Maintain operational records
- Resolve disputes
- Prevent fraud
- Comply with legal, contractual, tax, or regulatory obligations
Canvassing activity and organizational records may be retained for the duration of the applicable campaign, contract, or reporting period.
When information is no longer required, we may delete, anonymize, aggregate, or securely archive it.
Backup copies may remain for a limited period before being overwritten or deleted.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.
These measures may include:

No electronic transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Google Play requires developers to accurately disclose security practices, including whether data is encrypted in transit and whether users can request account deletion.

Account Deletion
Users may request account deletion by:

Deleting an account may remove or anonymize the user's personal account information. Records created on behalf of an organization, including authorized canvassing activity and survey records, may remain with that organization when legally and contractually permitted.
The Google Play Data Safety declarations and account-deletion process must match the actual app functionality.
Device Permissions
Depending on enabled features, the application may request:
- Location: Mapping, navigation, territory verification, and canvassing-session tracking
- Camera: Capturing authorized field or profile images
- Photos or Media: Uploading authorized images
- Notifications: Sending assignment, security, and operational alerts
- Internet Access: Connecting to the application's servers
- Phone or SMS: Only when an authorized feature requires initiating communications
Permissions may be controlled through the device settings.
The application should not request permissions that are unrelated to its core functionality. Google requires sensitive permissions to be limited to disclosed, user-consented purposes.
Children's Privacy
The Services are intended for authorized adult campaign staff members, contractors, and volunteers.
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 through user accounts.
If we learn that a child has created an unauthorized account, we will take reasonable steps to delete the account and associated personal information.
Organizations are responsible for ensuring that volunteers and users satisfy any applicable age requirements.
Political and Voter Information
The application may process political, voter-registration, survey, or campaign-preference information on behalf of authorized organizations.
Such information may be sensitive under certain state, federal, or international laws. Organizations using the Services are responsible for:
- Having lawful authority to upload and use the information
- Limiting access to authorized individuals
- Providing legally required notices
- Honoring applicable voter and consumer privacy rights
- Complying with election, campaign-finance, communications, and data-protection laws
Users may not use information obtained through the application for harassment, intimidation, discrimination, unauthorized surveillance, or unlawful purposes.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of independently operated third parties. Users should review the privacy policies of those services.
